The Wear You Can Measure Before It Costs You a Stand

Planter wear hides in plain sight because the machine still “works” — it goes up and down, seed comes out, the monitor is green. But grab a row unit and shake it: side-to-side play in the parallel arms means the opener wanders instead of holding the line. Measure the opener discs: under 14.5 inches on most 15-inch discs and they stop cutting a true V, leaving a W-shaped trench that puts seed at two depths. Check gauge wheel arms for slop against the discs — a gap there mis-reads depth on every row-foot. None of this needs electronics to find; it needs a tape measure, an hour, and honesty. Toolbar and Frame Work: the Heavy Side
