Cylinder rod seals wear predictably, and cylinder rods pit from dirt-and-grit exposure when the machine works in wet or muddy conditions. We rebuild cylinders individually with new seals, replace pitted rods, hone barrels where within tolerance, and pressure-test at working PSI before reinstall. Every rebuilt cylinder that leaves our bench gets a working-pressure test — you don’t want to find a mini-ex cylinder leaks at 2500 PSI on a jobsite when it worked fine at 500 PSI on the bench.
Track Drive Motor And Final Drive Work
Track drive motors and final drives are the next-most-common mini excavator repair category. Track motors on mini excavators are typically two-speed piston motors with an integrated planetary final drive. Common failure modes: internal seal failure (case-drain flow goes up, motor loses drive-side pressure), planetary bearing failure (grinding noise, metal in the case-drain filter), and travel motor housing crack from repeated impact on obstructions. We rebuild travel motors and final drives in-house where the parts are available, and we help source replacement units where OEM-only parts make rebuild uneconomic. Rubber track replacement is a straight-up service job we handle too — wear is predictable, and we keep common sizes available.
Main Pump And Control Valve Work
Main hydraulic pump work on mini excavators is a specialty. Compact excavators run variable-displacement piston pumps that self-adjust flow based on load — sophisticated hydraulics on a small package. When these pumps age, the symptoms are subtle: slightly slower cycle times, hesitation when starting a function under load, working pressure that falls slightly at operating temp. We diagnose pumps under load, then either bench-rebuild where practical or coordinate replacement. On the valve side, main-control valve internal wear causes function drift and interaction; we can rebuild individual valve sections. Mini excavator repair on the pump side is not a cheap fix, but it’s substantially cheaper than the machine being down for weeks or being replaced.
Structural And Frame Work
Structural mini excavator repair shows up regularly: boom weldment cracks at the boom-to-stick joint from cumulative shock, stick tip cracks from rock work, bucket ear weldments that fail, blade weldments, and undercarriage frame cracks from impact loading.
