Bollard Covers — Sleeve Existing Bollards With Something You Actually Like Looking At
Existing steel bollards on a commercial property are almost always painted safety yellow — which does its job for hazard warning but does not fit the visual identity of most retail sites, hospitality buildings, or municipal buildings. Slipping bollard covers over the existing pipe changes the appearance without pulling the bollard, without new concrete work, and without any structural change. The bollard still does its impact-protection job. It just does not look industrial anymore.

Types Of Bollard Covers We Fabricate And Ship
Plastic bollard covers
High-density polyethylene sleeve that slips over the existing pipe and locks with a rubber or plastic collar at the base. Impact-resistant, weather-fast, and available in every color the customer wants. Plastic bollard covers are the most-ordered because they are the fastest to install and the easiest to replace when they get hit and scuffed. Standard heights fit bollards 30 inches to 48 inches above grade.
Steel bollard covers
Formed or rolled steel sleeves for a heavier appearance. Powder-coated in custom colors, brushed or polished stainless for high-end retail, or bronze/copper finish for architectural applications. Steel bollard covers are welded seams or rolled seamless, with a welded steel dome cap. Weather-fast and vandal-resistant.
Decorative cast bollard covers
Cast iron or cast aluminum decorative covers for hospitality, civic buildings, and historical-district applications. Fluted, ridged, or period-styled profiles. Painted or clear-coat metal finish.
Reflective and safety-marked bollard covers
Bollard covers with reflective sheeting bands for high-traffic hazard visibility at drive-throughs, drop-off zones, and parking lot lane closures. Also available with company logo or address numerals silk-screened onto the sleeve.
Sizing Bollard Covers To Your Existing Pipe
Bollard covers only fit if the inside diameter of the cover matches the outside diameter of your existing pipe. The three common pipe sizes:
- 4″ nominal pipe — 4.5″ outside diameter — needs a cover with 4.6″-4.75″ inside diameter
- 6″ nominal pipe — 6.625″ outside diameter — needs a cover with 6.75″-7″ inside diameter
- 8″ nominal pipe — 8.625″ outside diameter — needs a cover with 8.75″-9″ inside diameter
Above-grade bollard height is the other dimension. Measure from concrete to the top of the pipe. Bollard covers come in standard 42″, 48″, 54″, and 60″ heights. Custom heights are cut to order.
How Bollard Covers Install
Plastic and light steel bollard covers install in about five minutes per bollard with two people:
- Wire-brush the existing bollard to remove loose rust and paint scale
- Slip the cover over the top of the bollard and slide it down
- Seat the cover onto the concrete base or the anchor collar
- Snap or bolt the base collar to lock the cover in place
- Install the dome cap if separate
Heavier decorative or cast bollard covers may need a two-piece split-seam design and a shop technician for install — we can send that to central Iowa sites or coordinate freight and install for out-of-state fleet customers.
When Bollard Covers Are Not The Right Answer
Bollard covers assume the bollard underneath is still structurally sound. If the pipe is bent, cracked, or corroded through, sleeving a cover over it hides the damage but does not fix it. How do I measure my existing bollard for a cover?
Measure the outside diameter of the pipe and the height from grade to the top of the pipe. Send us both dimensions and we spec the right cover.
Are plastic bollard covers vandal-resistant?
Most are impact-rated for parking-lot bumps and low-speed strikes. Not intended as anti-ram — that is the bollard’s job.
Can bollard covers be branded with a logo or store number?
Yes. Silk-screen, vinyl decal, or engraved metal plate options are available on both plastic and steel covers.
Do bollard covers protect the pipe from further damage?
They shield the pipe from paint scuffs and light impact. They do not stop a hard vehicle strike — the pipe underneath is still doing the structural work.
Can you paint bollard covers to match my brand color?
Yes. Custom color match on plastic (color-through resin) or powder-coated steel. Provide a Pantone number or a sample chip and we match it.
