What A Self Dumping Hopper Does

The self dumping hopper is a steel tub on wheels or on a forklift-mount frame, with a ratchet-release mechanism that lets the operator dump the contents by pulling a cable from the driver’s seat. The forklift lifts the hopper, positions it over the dumpster or roll-off, and the operator pulls the release — the hopper pivots, dumps the load, and springs back to the upright position latched. Done in ten seconds without leaving the forklift.

  • Machining chips with cutting fluid — the fluid attacks paint and pools at the drain point of the hopper. Solution: galvanized finish and a drain plug at the low point.
  • Hot slag from welding cells and torch tables — burns through paint and warps thin plate. Solution: heavier plate and unpainted or high-temp-coated finish.
  • Sharp scrap steel — rips through thin sidewalls under vibration. Solution: 3/16″ or 1/4″ plate and a smooth-radius interior.
  • Food and food processing waste — needs washdown-friendly geometry and stainless or galvanized finish.
  • Recyclable cardboard and film — needs a large lift-out volume with a lightweight sidewall to keep the forklift capacity in check.
